In late August 1969, my platoon from A/3/503rd Inf, 173d Abn Bde, was attached to a ground troop of the 2/1st Cav. I am trying to determine which troop, where its base camp was, and who commanded it at the time. My memory suggests the base camp was near Phan Rang, just off Hwy 1, near the South China Sea. However, it could have been closer to Phan Thiet since my platoon and company had been operating north of Phan Thiet for over a month before being attached to the cav troop. The troop's base camp had an open air shower in the center of the perimeter with what seemed like endless warm water, fed, I was told by underground springs. The GP medium tent my platoon was housed in abutted a one-story, gutted masonry building that I was told had once been a Vietnames soda pop factory. Any help in answering my questions would be appreciated.

Hello John. No5t sure of the spelling but you were just a little north of a small village name tuy Phong about halfway between Phang Rang and Phang Thiet. The name of the firebase was Panzer. And it was a bottling plant at one time and the water came from an artsian well and was not fit to drink. I tried to get some of you guys to ride out on my track but the answer I got back was"No thanks its safer to walk". Panzer was the firebase we built after we moved from firebase Blackhawk in Pleaku.
